Learn how to play Djeco Mistigri matching pairs card game

Mistigri is a beautifully illustrated card game from Djeco based on the traditional game of Old Maid. The word Mistigri refers to the joker which in this particular game is the cat card.

Aim of the game

Not to be left holding the Mistigri at the end of the game. This is the only card without a pair.

Game rules

  • The youngest player goes first.
  • Always play in a clockwise direction.
  • After dealing the cards equally, all players must look to see if they can make up any pairs from their own hand. Place any pairs on the table in front of you.
  • The game can then begin!

Game instructions

The first player takes a random card from the hand of his neighbour on the left. If he can create a pair with this new card he places the pair in front of him. If the card does not allow him to create a pair he has to keep it. It is then the turn of the next player to draw from the hand of his own neighbour on the left; and so on. All the cards form a pair except for the Mistigri card, so fingers crossed someone takes it from you before the end of the game!

The cards in this matching pairs game aren't simply exact matches of each other. The pairs are pictures that complement and match up to create a complete image.
